Arnold Gutlaizer, DVM – Owner

I was born in the shadow of the Big Apple in a town called Amityville. I was always interested in medicine and loved working with animals, so veterinary medicine was a perfect marriage of the two. I had a keen interest in biology and animal sciences in school. I have lived and worked in Oakland since graduating from vet school. I am married with 2 boys, a pug, 2 cats, a snake and several goldfish. In my off time I love playing with my sons, enjoy bike riding, skiing, and fixing things.
Roger Schulze, DVM – Veterinarian

I was born in and have spent most of my life around the bay area. During my childhood I grew up in a farmlike setting with a menagerie of pets and have always enjoyed the companionship of various animals throughout my life.
My hobbies include continually landscaping the back yard, exploring new areas to go mountain bicycling and working with computers.
My focus is caring for both dogs and cats with an emphasis in preventative health and geriatric care. I think it's important that you as a client are aware of preventative measures that can be taken to improve the overall health of your pet.
My family includes 3 large dogs (2 Golden Retriever Mixes, 1 Border Collie mix) and 3 indoor cats.
Michael Miller, DVM – Veterinarian

Dr. Miller grew up in San Diego and moved to the Bay Area after graduating from veterinary school. He enjoys traveling, hiking and pop culture trivia. He has two cats, Samuel and Chaplin.
Joan Wright, DVM – Veterinarian

I grew up in Mason, Ohio. As a young girl I fell in love with the stories of James Herriott, and decided to become a veterinarian. After graduation from veterinary school I headed west and worked in Oregon for 5 years doing equine, farm and small animal medicine and surgery.
I moved to Oakland in 1999 to begin working at BPH, where I enjoy preventative medicine and solving diagnostic challenges. In my free time, I enjoy road cycling, and sharing my life with the world's best cat and cutest pug ever.
Jocelyn Thurm, DVM – Veterinarian

I first started working at Broadway Pet Hospital in 1994 as a veterinary technician, shortly after graduating from UC Santa Cruz. It was here that I became comfortable working with animals and developed a real love for the profession. Three years later I was accepted into UC Davis Veterinary School, and in 2004 started working a BPH again only this time as a veterinarian.
My favorite pastime is spending time with my 2 year old son, my husband and by cat Booboo. I also enjoy traveling, reading, knitting, and hiking.
Kerry Lawrence, DVM – Veterinarian

B.A. 2000 Biology Mount Holyoke College
I spent my childhood in Canada and Vermont and moved to the Bay Area in 2007 after veterinary school. I have always loved working with animals, especially older cats, and discovered a true appreciation for the bond between pets and their people while working in a variety of settings, including a feline hospital, an emergency hospital and rural temporary clinics in Tennessee, Idaho, New Mexico and Guatemala. I have very much enjoyed being welcomed into the Broadway Pet Hospital "family" and caring for my patients and their families. I live in Oakland with my dog and cat, and look forward to spending more time exploring the Northern California area.
